The Elusiveness of Time!
From August 2024 to October 2024 I had a solo exhibit at the DesBrisay Museum in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia with the title: “The Elusiveness of Time”
The concept of time is one of the fundamental and intricate aspects of human existence, shaping our worldview and cultural beliefs. It is a ubiquitous and yet elusive - a variable through which we measure, experience, and interpret the world around us.
Time is not merely a ticking clock; it is a dynamic force that molds our perceptions, values, and understanding of reality. And therefor time can be a subjective experience rather than an objective mechanical measured phenomena.
In the realm of photography, I find myself captivated by the elusive nature of time. Through my lens, I embark on a visual journey and exploring the intricacies of temporal existence. Time is a peculiar concept, both omnipresent and fleeting - yet so prevalent in our human experience.
In my work I aim to capture the elusive moments that slip through our fingers like grains of sand.

Past Exhibits
At the Tipping Point!
In November 2023, my wife, Eva Douglas, and I had an exhibit “At the Tipping Point!” at the Lunenburg Art Gallery, Lunenburg.
The work we are showing addresses issues around our precarious environment and our very survival as a species in a world that seems to be struggling.
Jostein’s photographic studies of the perception of time and the constant discussion we hear on the news about ‘time running out’, brings our attention to contemplate both our own and the planet’s limitation within ‘time’.
Eva’s unusual rug hookings both frustrate the viewer and forces contemplation of what we might lose by not coming to terms with societies putting money as a priority over the planet’s well-being. We do seem to be at some sort of “Tipping Point”, and that became the title of the show.
In Search of Emotions
From November 2022 to January 2023 I had a solo exhibit at the DesBrisay Museum in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia with the title: “In Search of Emotions”
Emotions are as much an essential element of photographs as composition. Photos that evoke emotion simply portray a feeling. It can be open but also subtle. When portraiture has it - it makes an impact. But capturing emotion via photography can be incredibly tricky. Many photographers struggle to capture emotion in their work. As a photographer or an artist, my aim, over the next many years, is to strive to improve. This series of photographs is called “In Search of Emotions” and is the beginning of my long journey in portrait photography.
Lens & Light
I had a few photographs showing at the Bridgewater Photo Club’s 40th Anniversary Exhibit: Lens & Light at the DesBrisay Museum in Bridgewater. The exhibit runs from September to October 2022.
